There is no doubt that everybody seems to be demanding braces nowadays. What was unfeasible 10 years ago is right now very much a reality. 10 years ago, you would never have seen an adult wearing braces – at least not parading around with them – but now the situation has drastically changed. People seem to have overcome all the difficulties that are associated with braces in their quest for a beautiful smile, and we have to say kudos for you. However, if you are seeking braces but still can’t get over their problems, then you must be looking for an alternative, and we have that for you. One word .. Invisalign. So the question beckons: Invisalign vs braces: Which one to choose and why?

How do braces work?
Traditional braces is a system of brackets, wires and circular colorful elastics that are glued to the outer surface of the teeth. The wire exerts a pulling movement on the teeth, and so they move to the desired location.
How does Invisalign work?
Unlike braces, Invisalign has nothing attached to the surface of the teeth. The brackets, wires and elastics are replaced by a set of plastic, transparent molds called aligners. You wear the aligners so that they closely contact the outer surface of the teeth – but can be removed at will – and they apply pressure rather than pulling to move them.
Invisalign vs Braces: Which one should I choose?
Invisalign solved most of the problems of traditional braces. However, that doesn’t mean that it is always the right choice.
When to choose braces:
Traditional braces are fast, easy and reliable. They can be applied quickly with no fuss, and have been used for years with great success. In fact, they are still the number one choice for some experienced orthodontists for one simple fact: They give complete control to the orthodontist. He can push, pull, open space, close space and do whatever he wants, and they sure like that so they can control the results. Another fact is that they are cheaper than Invisalign and all other esthetic alternatives.
When not to choose braces:
As we said, brace come with a set of disadvantages. Their appearance is horrifying, making them unsuitable for most adults. They always cut and scrape against the gums, cheeks and lips. Plus, they take an awful lot of time before showing results.
When to choose Invisalign:
Invisalign is almost the exact opposite of braces. It looks great, is very comfortable, and generally faster than braces when it comes to results. It is also extremely accurate since it is computer made.
When not to choose Invisalign:
Perhaps the only problem with Invisalign is its cost, which is marginally higher than braces. Another disadvantage is that it is not suitable for all cases, such as very young children and cases of jaw size mismatch.
So in short, Braces should be your choice when you’re looking for something quick, reliable and cheap. However, if appearance and comfort are your main concerns, and you don’t mind spending a little extra, then Invisalign may be the answer for you.
